Exemplary ERO's

Each year, the IRS monitors Electronic Return Originators (EROs), and those who fulfill the requirements necessary may receive the distinguished honor of being named an Exemplary ERO. This program is part of the IRS's effort to meet the congressional mandate to have 80 percent of tax returns filed electronically by 2007 and honors just one tax firm from each state. To qualify, an ERO must electronically file a majority of their prepared returns (a minimum of 100) and maintain a low rejection rate at first transmission.

Nellie Williams, EA and ERO from Arizona, received this award when she filed nearly 94% of her returns electronically with very few rejections. She suggests that this low rejection rate can be attributed to careful data entry and planning. "You need to make sure to clean up your client database, know your clients and their information."

Taxing Subjects would like to offer hearty congratulations to the 2000 Exemplary ERO award recipients. The complete list may be viewed at www.irs.gov/prod/elec_svs/ero/ero.html. More Exemplary EROs will be featured in future issues of Taxing Subjects.
