IRS E-Services – Breaking News
In 2004, the IRS unveiled a new set of online tools to help tax professionals communicate faster and more effectively with them. Called e-services, several of these tools were limited to only those EROs who successfully e-filed more than 100 returns in a season.

New Criteria for EROs
On March 17, the IRS decided to lower this requirement significantly, allowing any e-file provider who has e-filed five or more accepted returns to access these “premium” e-services. This is a major change and will open the door for many new EROs to enjoy the benefits of e-services.

IRS E-Services Overview
The IRS offers two categories of e-services:
• E-Services Available to All Tax Professionals
- Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) Application
- Online E-File Application
- Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) Matching

• E-Services with Limited Access (eligible EROs e-filed five or more accepted
individual or business returns in a season)

- Disclosure Authorization
- Electronic Account Resolution
- Transcript Delivery System
